Jets favored in most games in franchise history

The New York Jets are favored in 14 games this season, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

That's more games the team is favored than in any other season in franchise history, sports betting writer Ben Fawkes noted, citing sportsoddshistory.com.

The only three contests for which the oddsmakers have Gang Green as underdogs are road games in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers on "Monday Night Football" (+5.5), Week 14 against the Miami Dolphins (+2) and Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills (+2.5).

DraftKings has the Jets most heavily favored in their Week 3 "Thursday Night Football" home tilt vs. the rival New England Patriots (-7.5).

During Thursday's episode of "Get Up" on ESPN, Mike Greenberg predicted a 14-3 campaign for the Jets, agreeing with the current odds and seeing his favorite team only losing in Weeks 1, 14 and 17.

The Jets hold the longest postseason drought among all teams in North America's four major sports, missing the playoffs each of the last 13 years. They last won a division title during the 2002 season, made their only Super Bowl in the 1968 campaign and have only won 12 games in a season once (1998).

While DraftKings has high expectations for head coach Robert Saleh's group, the squad is tied for the 12th-hardest schedule in the league (opponents had a .505 winning percentage in 2023).

As of Friday afternoon, FanDuel lists the Jets' over/under at 9.5 wins.

Adding Pro Bowl linebacker Haason Reddick to an already stout defense that includes Pro Bowlers Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, as well as All-Pro linebacker Quincy Williams and All-Pro cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, gives New York arguably the best unit on paper.

If New York is to meet its lofty expectations though, it will need a full, healthy and productive season from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles just four snaps into Week 1 last season. The Jets signed eight-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tyron Smith in March to help protect the four-time MVP while also signing former Los Angeles Chargers star wideout Mike Williams to give Rodgers another weapon.

New York also has two of the best at their position in running back Breece Hall and wideout Garrett Wilson, both of whom likely haven't yet reached their primes at 22- and 23-years-old respectively.

Regardless of how this season goes for the Jets, there'll be plenty of viewers tuned in to see how the year plays out. The team is tied with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers for the highest number of prime-time contests during the 2024 season (six).
